Only seven hours left at work can't wait!

Merry Christmas everbody!

Friday, 17 December 2010

Very slippy again!

No running of gym tonight as I have my kids which I am really looking forward to as because of the crap weather I have not seen them for four weeks!

So training will start again Sunday afternoon.

I have sent my subs off to Southwell Running Club unfortunately due to car trouble I have not been for ages. But it is definitely worth the £15 a year!

cheers and stay safe & warm

2011

So far I have picked fourteen possible races for next year including two marathons and one ultra!

Want to be far more focused next year than this. I have had some good races but also too many race free weekends. I enjoy racing so I am going to get cracking, so on the 1st of January my application for the White Peak marathon will be sent off. Also I will enter the Sleaford Half which is on the 20th February, next year it is to chip timed so hopefully I can beat my previous best. So Sleaford will be my first race of 2011 and also my next race. Checking some of the dates of next years races some of them clash which is unfortunate the Grantham Cup 10k is on the same day as the Lincoln 10k (I like Lincoln you get a really good medal) and the Mansfield Half is on the same day as the Humber Bridge Half and I really fancy running over the Humber bridge.

The weather has improved but the forecast is for a lot more snow Thursday so lots of running at the gym which is where I will be tonight. I downloaded a few podcasts which I really enjoy listening too while running so I am looking forward to that.

cheers

Saturday, 11 December 2010

Moved my car today!

The snow is thawing, HUZZAH!

So I went to the gym if and it is a big IF! I enter this ultra marathon I have got to do some serious training so the sooner I start the better.

Keep on running.

Friday, 10 December 2010

Born slippy!

We have had the snow & ice for over a week and this morning was the first one where I slipped over. It was like an ice rink but hopefully it will thaw a bit more today.

Looking forward to this weekend as I am busy not seeing Charlotte and Sam though which is a pain as I am missing them like crazy! Going to Nottingham Sunday as my brother is doing a craft fair at the Broadway Cinema so that should me fun and I might do a little bit of xmas shopping.

Need to start running soon as it is nearly two weeks since I have done any training and if I am serious about this ultra marathon I have got to pull my finger out. Not sure I am being a bit daft entering it but I need a challenge otherwise I will just drift along and it would be amazing to be able to say ‘yeah, I’ve run an ultra marathon’.

Anybody see ‘Never mind the Buzzcocks’ last night? It was hilarious hosted by Lee Mack and one of the guests was the beautiful Diana Vickers. Really funny catch it on iplayer if you get the chance.

Have a good one

David

Thinking about going ULTRA!

Bored need a challenge so was googling!

The Nottingham Ultra marathon 50k in October 2011!

Now that's an idea!

Might just!

Snow good!

Have not been able to get my car out for a week!

Been getting a lift to work, I live in a dip so it stays really cold and as we are having temperatures of -12 my car may be stuck for a bit longer! Running outside is impossible as the ice is everywhere and I cannot get to the gym. All very disappointing.

Doing press ups and sit ups at home but it is not the same.

Still it is supposed to be warming up on Thursday a tropical +2 can’t wait.

cheers

ICE!

I'm getting fed up now!

Clowne - CANCELLED!

Due to the snow!!

Wednesday, 24 November 2010

Good run!

Ran 8.5 miles last night and felt great! After doing most of my recent running at the gym becuase I am a big girl and it has been cold. I put on my layers and did a steady 8.5! Thanks to a couple of running podcasts I downloaded at the weekend the run was great.

Hopefully the weather will be ok Sunday though there is a possibility of snow but the long range forecast says sunny but cold, well fingers crossed.

Tonight some interval training at the gym, oh and Notts County won at last!

Happy days

cheers

Tuesday, 16 November 2010

Getting slippy!

Six miles last night and was it was freezing!

Also getting a bit slippy but have got to make the most of the dry and windless weather (windless? is that a word?)

cheers

Two Marathons!

Thinking of doing two marathons next year!

Need a challenge, so I am looking at the White Peak Marathon in May and Nottingham in September.

So the earliest I can enter the better as I need a goal and a target.

The goal = two marathons.

The target = under four hours.

There it's out on the web now, I am committed to two marathons!!!!

cheers

BBRRRRRR!!! It's cold!!

Did five miles last night and was it cold?

YES, very!

Think it's time to dig out the running tights.

Felt pretty good all the way round so hopefully Clowne should be ok. The weather looks pretty bad today so I think it may be the gym tonight.

Need to get in a long one in at the weekend ten plus miles just for piece of mind really I am pretty sure I am fit enough. Just struggling with the cold weather now that I am older I really hate the winter.Never used to bother me!

cheers

Wednesday, 10 November 2010

Sucks!!

Being broke!

I have missed out on the Edwinstowe Christmas 10k this year, it is full and if the Bolsover one fills up before pay day I will miss out on that one as well.

cheers

Monday, 8 November 2010

Raining!

Three weeks to go until Clowne!

Need to get some more miles in my old legs.

Hopefully the weather will improve I just want it to stop raining. Nothing at all planned this week apart from training. Tonight the plan is a five mile run then some weights at the gym and a nice long sauna.

Oh, and back home in time for 'Robson Greene's Extreme Fishing'.

My life is one non stop paaaarrrrtttyyyy!!!

cheers

Wednesday, 3 November 2010

EMERGENCY!

No run!

My best mate had a family emergency so I was babysitting a three year old.

Oh well, gym tonight.

cheers

Tuesday, 2 November 2010

It's raining!

And I really can't be bothered getting wet.

But the plan is a 5 mile run tonight.

So tune in tomorrow to see if I got wet or bottled it and stayed at home.

cheers

Monday, 1 November 2010

Time to refocus!

5 miles on Saturday and 8.5 miles on Sunday.

Four weeks to go until the Clowne half!

So no more drinking and lots of training. Am a bit sore today but am off to the gym for some weights and speed training.

Got to stay focused!

Friday, 15 October 2010

Gym Gym Gym

All weekend, as I am completely broke the gym is going to be my main activity this weekend.

Except for Sunday when my daughter and I are off to see Plan B in Lincoln which I am very excited about.

Talking about my daughter she has won the Duke of Devonshire’s art bursary for students reading art at university. I am as you can imagine very proud.

As I am of my son who had a great time at a foam party last night!!!!

cheers

Tuesday, 5 October 2010

Took advantage

Of the nice weather yesterday and ran eight miles, need to get plenty of miles in just in case I enter the Worksop half at the end of the month.

Running five tonight and then going to the gym rubbish night on the TV so might as well.

Reading ‘Runner’s World’ magazine and I am really looking forward to entering some cross country races this winter. My club is in a league so hopefully lot’s of races!

cheers

Clowne Half Marathon

I'm in! Can't wait!

Friday, 17 September 2010

A weekend of rest, reading and rest!

Looking forward to doing nothing.

Current reading obsessesion is the Crimean War, at the moment I am totally absorbed in a book about Louis Nolan the guy who delivered the message ordering the Charge of the Light Brigade. Fascinating stuff!

Will probably run approx 15 miles over the weekend with one trip to the gym the only bit of work to do is cutting the lawn.

Now all I have to do is get through the rest of the afternoon here at the happy place!!

Have a good one

Thursday, 16 September 2010

In work early! Again!

And probably stopping late! Again!

Did force myself out last night for a steady five mile run just to blow the cobwebs away.

Tonight I think a trip to the gym still working on this six pack, will it ever appear? I can feel it but unfortunately it is under about half an inch of fat which refuses to leave me after all these years. All I want is to get a six pack take a photo say to myself there you go! You did it! Then forget about it!

Weather taken a turn for the worse it is getting chilly and it is quite windy. Had to wear a long sleeve top last night.

It is the Great North Run this Sunday and I will be watching it on the telly. Having competed in it the last two years both times not fully fit. I don't think I will do it again. Although a great event and one I am very glad I did it is I think too big and the route is a bit dull. But I will be watching it on Sunday morning and probably wishing I was there.

It is and hopefully you have noticed the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and there are some great TV programmes on at the moment better than the usual rubbish. Lots about the Spitfire hopefully they won't forget the good old Hurricane.

12/09/10 Nottingham Half Marathon Race Report

FANTASTIC!!

The best half I have done loved every minute of it. Was not my fastest but it was my best. Felt good from beginning to end. The picture to the left is me at mile 13 (number 5160) and I managed to sprint to the finish.

Loved the route!

Loved the atmosphere!

Am even thinking of doing the full marathon next year!

Was a perfect day and a perfect race weather could not have been better there were plenty of drinks stations the organisation was faultless and I really like the medal.

Great running in my home city only wish I had started running years ago.

cheers

That was good!

Really enjoyed it my new favourite half marathon!

Did it in just over one hour forty six minutes! Well chuffed!

Next year if I start closer to the front I reckon a pb is possible.

Anyway full report with piccies soon.

cheers

Thursday, 9 September 2010

Excited!

Getting all excited about the Notts Half on Sunday. Training gone ok and I am hoping to come home in about one hour fifty minutes. The weather forecast is about perfect, cloudy but dry.

Washed my team Experian running top last night and will be getting the rest of my kit ready tonight after my last training run of three miles.

Carb fuelling tomorrow and for the rest of the week also resting the old legs.

Next year I think I am going to increase the number of races I compete in and hopefully do some different ones. Also might try my luck at some fell running.

See you again on Tuesday with a race report and hopefully a few photos.

Cheers

David

Wednesday, 8 September 2010

BOOM!

Five miles in 35 minutes and 58 seconds.

cheers

Monday, 6 September 2010

Why?

I had a race on Friday only 5k but a race!

But why am I just as knackered after 5k as I am after 13.1 miles?

Anyway did it in approx 22 minutes 25 seconds which I am quite pleased with as I am not particularly quick. It was a good race well organised by Mansfield Athletics Club and with supper included recommended.

Did my last long run before the Nottingham Half yesterday ran for ninety minutes and got scared by cows again now its just resting and carb loading before Sunday. Will get a few three milers in.

Oh and I have a club race on Tuesday night! Five miles at Caythorpe!

cheers

Thursday, 2 September 2010

Knackered!

Have run 27 miles in the last five days so tonight is a night off just a bit of upper body weights then a nice sauna and shower. Followed by pasta to load me up with carbs before tomorrow nights 5k road race. Looking forward to the race though I think the route will be a bit boring and hilly but it is a good chance to work on my speed.

Feeling a bit more confident about the Nottingham Half now although I am using it as a training race for the Clowne Half in November. Hoping to get round the Nottingham Half in about one hour fifty minutes.

KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) have a new burger out! The Kentucky Jack and very nice it looks too. On my five mile run last night I passed at least four posters advertising it. Now I have not had a KFC for ages but I could do without the mental torture when I am out on a run!

The weathers picked up and now I am hoping it cools down a bit before the 12th am I never happy!

See ya

Wednesday, 1 September 2010

10.5 miles!

Not too bad and felt ok!

Five tonight and a trip to the gym.

Thursday, 26 August 2010

End of August and autumn has arrived!

Chucking it down so last night not being able to convince myself to run in the rain although needing lots more miles in my legs. Off I went to the nice warm dry gym and ran 10k on the treadmill and I hate the treadmill it’s so boring!

But the Russian Ice Queen was there!

Have I not mentioned her before?

Well she is a stunning eastern European blonde with a figure to make a grown man cry and I do!

But she knows it big time and if looks could kill I would be six feet under and I have never seen her smile.

Anyway time for my medication, oh and it’s still raining.

Cheers

I HATE BANKS AND...

...CALL CENTRES!!

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

Cows, scary dog and lots of rain!

Ran to my brothers yesterday about six miles there and six miles back. Not a bad run but was a bit worried about some random cows and a big massive German Shepherd. Also got sopping wet on the way home but it was a good training run and a few more miles in my old legs before the fast approaching Nottingham Half.

Gym visit tonight followed by some family history research a bit in the local paper about some chap researching his Great Uncle who just happens to be my Great Granddad.

Have also sent of my entry fee for the Mansfield 5k Classic Road Race which is on Friday the 3rd September. Should be fun and I get a free supper.

See you soon

Monday, 16 August 2010

9.5 miles

In one hour nineteen minutes!

Nice and steady, four weeks to go!

Summer League and…..

….not entering the survival of the fittest!

First of all the ‘Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest’ too expensive for a 10k with bells on!

But I have entered the 2010 Nottingham Half Marathon which is on the 12th of September so lot’s of training required. Managed to get a cheap entry which includes a running vest.

Also ran in the seasons last Notts Summer League club race which was at Tethersall on Wednesday and it was great. Just under six miles on a trail and road course and I did it in 45 minutes and felt pretty good. I loved the competitive element and am already looking forward to next year.

So have got to get cracking on some long runs in the next few weeks hopefully the weather will improve.

Toodle pip

Thursday, 22 July 2010

Survival of the Fittest!

Rachel and Tammy have entered!

So no excuses I will be entering on Monday.

Also turns out there is at least two more people from work doing it.

Ran five miles last night very hot again but it was ok tonight is upper body weights, need to be able to get over those walls.

Really looking forward to this weekend, German Grand Prix and I have plans for a bike trip on Sunday. Doing some research into local war memorials so need to check out some stuff. Weather forecast is pretty good just need to get through the next two days at work.

Toodle pip!

Tuesday, 20 July 2010

Started running again!

Since my poorly feet and then my sunburn had me sidelined for a couple of weeks last night was my first run in a while. I did a steady four miles with hills and it was not too bad. In fact better than I expected.

Tonight it is the gym with weather permitting running tomorrow night.

Still thinking about doing the ‘Mens Health Survival of the Fittest’ just need to find the cash.

cheers

Sunday, 11 July 2010

The octopus was right again!

Spain deserved it they were by far the better team.

Now to try to fall asleep with my chest on fire. Still can't believe how stupid I have been.

Good night

World Cup 2010

Just about to watch the World Cup don't really care who wins just want a good game.

Don't feel very well today got a touch of sunstroke and I am very burnt! Really really stupid. So have not been able to run though I did manage to do my press ups this afternoon.

Hopefully will feel better tomorrow and get on with my training again.

Saturday, 10 July 2010

Sun burnt!

Stupid!! Fell asleep!

Thursday, 8 July 2010

TONIGHT!

On my TV...Channel Five, good film!

Poorly feet!

Along with money problems and the accompanying stress I have not done much or indeed any running since my appalling show at the Mansfield half, also work's shit!

Anyway enough of the moaning, my poorly feet I think are down to new shoes and tying them too tight. This should be remedied now as they fit!!

As to my next race! Am not sure yet there is a five mile road race in Mansfield which I quite fancy and of course the Newark half (if fit!).

I am also thinking about, finances depending, entering the 'Men's Health Survival of the Fittest 10k' but it is £36!!

Should be a good weekend though lot's of footie and a Grand Prix.

see ya

27/06/10 Mansfield Half Marathon Race Report

The weather forecast said it was going to be very hot and it was not wrong. By the start of the race it was already scorching. I had been drinking plenty of water and had had my pre race breakfast of wholemeal toast with jam. Stood at the start covered in sun tan lotion and wearing a cap I was ready or so I thought.

Was not expecting a quick time anything under one hour fifty minutes I would be happy.

However two miles in I knew it was not going to be fast but at my nine miles I knew it was going to be slow. Last year I did my pb at Mansfield not this year. The route is pretty open hardly any shade with some long long straights. At mile ten I was exhausted and dehydrated even taking on water at every drinks station. I finally stumbled over the finish line in over two hours!

But then I think most people did a lot worse than they were expecting.

So roll on the next one and some more running friendly weather.

27/06/10 Mansfield Half Marathon stats;
Time: 2:01.19
Position: Don’t care! (322 out of 658)
Condition: Poorly

Tuesday, 29 June 2010

Slow!

Well that was horrible.

Nearly my slowest time, over 2 hours, over 20 minutes slower than last year. It was just way too hot. I was fine until mile nine when I started to get dehydrated even taking on fluids at every water station didn’t help. I felt awful!

And then England were rubbish.

What a Sunday!

Full report to follow.

cheers

Friday, 25 June 2010

C'MON ENGLAND!! (Part two)

And we get to do it all over again on Sunday!

cheers

Wednesday, 23 June 2010

C'MON ENGLAND!

27c!!

It has forecast temperatures of up to 27c on Sunday!

27c!!!

I ran a steady 3 miles last night, it was pretty hot again, I was wearing a cap and had plenty of water throughout the day but I was knackered.

So not looking good, but will just take it nice and steady.

Finishing at 2.15pm today as I am off home to watch England against Slovenia. England must play better!

They must!

Fingers crossed.

Tuesday, 22 June 2010

One of those nights!

Set off for a steady five miles last night but really could not get into it. It was really hot and I had to walk a couple of times!

Have got a bit of pain in the top of my right foot which is annoying, hurts at the start of a run but then slowly subsides.

Tonight is the same distance but hopefully I will be up for it more.

This happens before every race I do, the last few training runs being a bit crap.

Also went to the gym last night just did a bit of exercise bike and then about fifteen minutes in the Jacuzzi followed by a sauna.

Not sure what the forecast is for Sunday yet but I hope it cools down a bit.

cheers

ps still got the beard

Monday, 21 June 2010

Weekend running

Well the past weekend resulted in one running session of 8 miles and one press up session. Last night I managed 70 press ups in one go, so only 30 more to go.

With a week to go until the Mansfield Half all my usual aches and pains are turning up.

Also I have not shaved for a week, ‘backing the beard’ ie as long as England stay in the World Cup I am not shaving. Well England look as though they may be leaving early unless they pull their collective finger out. But as the weather has improved there is no way I can run 13.1 miles with a full beard so it will be disappearing before the weekend.

Tonight is a bit of a run followed by a trip to the gym, not watching the live match tonight think I will just watch the highlights instead.

Cheers

Thursday, 17 June 2010

Nine Miles!!

Nine blinking miles and it was red hot!

I was the sweatiest man in the world.

cheers

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

Bit rubbish

Last night I didn’t go for a run! I had a lift home and was dropped off about a mile away so had to walk a mile then when I got in I just couldn’t be bothered.

Did do my second 100 press up challenge session which consisted of 20,20,22,22,24,20 and 20 sets of press ups with a 45 second recovery in between. Supposed to be doing this four times a week for two weeks then up the number of reps in each set so hopefully in three weeks I can complete the challenge of 100 press ups in one go!

Definitely running at least seven miles tonight hopefully a couple more. Have to pick my car up from my mates house tonight so will do my seven or eight miles route then tag on a couple to get me to his house.

Beautiful day today and I am in a better mood although I have got some pain in my left lower leg. I think my varicose veins are having a bit of a party.

Getting quite excited about the Mansfield Half, I do like pretending to be an athlete for a couple of hours. Looking forward to getting my number.

cheers

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

You know when….

….you need something to look forward too?

Well that’s me today.

I was looking forward to the England v USA game and then England were as usual rubbish.

I am looking forward to seeing my daughter’s art exhibition on Thursday.

I am looking forward to having Charlotte & Sam this weekend.

I am looking forward to the Mansfield Half marathon on the 27th.

But then what?

Oh, I am in a bad mood today!

Tonight according to my schedule I am doing a 5 mile run then home for some tea and the Brazil v North Korea game followed by ‘James Corden’s World Cup Live’ with special guests Jimmy Greaves and Pixie Lott and as a special treat here’s a picture of Jimmy Greaves!

Ha Ha only joking! Here’s a picture of the rather attractive Pixie Lott!

Hopefully I will be in a better mood tomorrow, see ya

Knackered!

I want to go home and go to sleep for a very long time.

Monday, 14 June 2010

Well...

...I've entered the Mansfield Half Marathon and now my ankle is hurting!

Ran 10 miles yesterday felt ok-ish! I think the pain is just some mental thing.

Rest night tonight though I am off to the gym for a sauna and some upper body stuff.

Did the first press up session last night, very hard though I think I may be ready for the 100 in a couple of weeks. I think I will wait until the week after the half marathon. Don't want to do too much.

Using the Mansfield Half as practice for the Newark Half in August. I won't be very quick at Mansfield hopefully about 1.48 but I would like to get near my PB at Newark! I would love to get under 1.40.

cheers

Wednesday, 9 June 2010

Gym!

Was very busy last night, did 10k on the bike then some weights.

I’m hoping it stays fine today as my schedule dictates a 7 mile run tonight.

Can’t wait till Friday this week seems to be really dragging and I have got nothing else to tell you about.

So until next time.

Tuesday, 8 June 2010

Still training….

…but still have not decided if I am running Mansfield.

Did not get out Sunday morning as it was chucking it down, did do seven miles last night and it was pretty good but a bit humid.

The plan this week is to alternate running with the gym which should hopefully see me visit the gym three times and achieve a weekly mileage of approx 34 miles.

I am also getting in to this 100 press up (push up) challenge, the challenge is (obviously!) to do 100 press ups in one go! This morning I did 50 and could have done a few more. A lad at work is training for it and there was an article in this months ‘Men’s Health’ magazine and there is also a website. I will keep you informed.

The World Cup starts Friday which I am looking forward to and it is the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend so I will have to fit my training around lots of TV sport this weekend.

cheers

Saturday, 5 June 2010

Phew!!

It was a hot one this morning!

Training carries on at pace for the Mansfield Half. Ran 7 miles this morning started at 8.45am and it was red hot had to stop three times because of the heat.

Did a little experiment weighed myself before I started and when I finished and I had lost 2lbs must have all been in sweat.

But will be doing another seven tomorrow, should be cooler.

cheers

Thursday, 27 May 2010

Mansfield Half Marathon 27th June!

Have not sent my money off yet for this one as I was not going to do it this year. Although I managed to do my personal best half marathon time at last years race it is a really boring route.

But I have started a half marathon training schedule this week with a view to entering if the next couple of weeks training goes ok. So far this week I have run twelve miles with an expected weekly total of thirty five.

I am feeling pretty good and am enjoying the increased mileage.

Tonight is a steady five miles followed by some weights at the gym. I am off work tomorrow for some r & r and it is my daughter’s 18th birthday party Saturday night! Am I really old enough to have an eighteen year old daughter!!!!

Have a good one

Ps just noticed I have not done a race report for Wymeswold, will get that up soon.

Monday, 24 May 2010

My knee's have gone all trembly!

I'm on my way to Wembley!!!

C'mon ENGLAND!!!

Thursday, 13 May 2010

Busy, busy, busy

But with a race coming up this Sunday! Only a five miler but I want to get under 40 minutes I have managed one trip to the gym and one 6 mile run! If the weather holds out today the plan is a five miler and then some weight work! Have had a challenge from my 16 year old son, who can get the best six pack!! So lots of training as I don’t want to be totally embarrassed.

I think I am going down town Friday night, always interesting!

Saturday is FA cup final day so carb loading in front of the TV, as for other stuff, not been up to much! Have started reading more but am really trying to up my weekly mileage still have not decided about a marathon this year! Did enter the ballot for the 2011 London marathon but you have to wait until October to find out if you are in or not, fingers crossed.

Well better get the old nose back to the grindstone, pip pip.

Friday, 7 May 2010

I’m still here, honest!

Next race the 16th of May!

The Wymeswold Waddle!

Only five miles but should be a giggle!

cheers

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

The joy of six!

Ran six miles last night!!

Trying to up my weekly mileage just in case I decide to do a marathon!

Oh and happy birthday to me!

18/04/10 Grantham Cup 10k Race Report

As promised!

Yet again another beautiful day for a race!

This was the first running of the Grantham Cup 10k and was staged at Belton estate which is a national trust property and a very fine house well worth a visit!

The race is on the same weekend as the Belton international horse trials entry to the horse trials included in the race fee, so well worth it as me, my mother & brother all got in for free!

The route was all off road in the deer park and on some of the horse trials course! There was one really, really steep hill which was impossible to run all the way up but at the top you then know you are going dowe at some point! There was also an optional water jump which I declined as I did not have a spare pair of trainers!

All in all a fun race, not the quickest but great value and a definite for next year!

18/04/10 Grantham Cup 10k stats;
Time: 48.28
Position: 47 out of 116
Condition: Hot and sweaty

Thursday, 22 April 2010

Look it's me!

At the Grantham Cup 10k at Belton!

Number 216, I need a shave but what a beautiful day just look at the colour of the sky!

Blissfully unaware of the steepest hill I have ever attempted to run up!

Full report to follow.

Thinking!!

About entering another Marathon!!!!!

More miles than sense!

ps. Grantham Cup 10k report soon, promise!

17/04/10 Cotgrave Paws 10k Race Report

This race was brilliant it goes down as one of my favourite races.

It was excellent value for money, very friendly, well organised and for charity!

The venue was Cotgrave Country Park; I had never been before but was very pleasantly surprised. Great facilities close to the start and a very nice course looked quite complicated but the marshals were great and you were never in doubt of where to go. There was one steep hill which was almost impossible to run up!

Was slightly disappointed with my time, even though I said I was just treating them as training runs. But it was very warm!

To sum up a great race which I will definitely do again!

...Belton 10k trail run Sunday.

Did a steady seven miles last night and I am looking forward to a weekend of running! Not expecting to break any pb's treating them more as training runs!

I do get to run round some pretty places though, see below for a picture of Belton House!

Have a great weekend

Last day for five whole days

And I cannot wait!

Will be running Saturday and Sunday hopefully some speed work to get me ready for my 10k’s on the 17th and 18th.

Planning to do some weight work at the gym on Monday and Wednesday mornings before Charlotte and Sam wake up!

The main aim of the five days is to not think about work at all, wish me luck.

Have a happy and safe weekend.

Tired legs – again!

Ran a measly three miles last night and my legs were really tired! The lure of football has won over running club tonight and I am hoping a change will be as good as a rest!

Though I am resting Friday no excising at all, will commence running again on Saturday.

Have got my kids (kids!! sixteen and very nearly eighteen!) for five days from Friday and am really looking forward to it. Having a trip to the seaside one day!

Work is rubbish and I am really not happy but with a few days off soon I can perhaps recharge my mental batteries as well as my physical ones! Need a mental diversion to stop me thinking about work all the time.

Need a cheap (very cheap) hobby!

A trip to the library next week I think!

cheers

Wednesday, 7 April 2010

Yesssss footy tomorrow!

Something to look forward too, my fitness and silky skills are required, well my fitness! So footy and then gym on the way home for a sauna!

Tonight I am going out running again, definatly, without a doubt, promise!

cheers

Bit bloody windy!

Went for a run outside last night did six miles and was knackered! Now I have two races coming up in less than two weeks so have got to get some miles in. I am afraid that the lure of the gym has been too great. Did go to the gym afterwards for a sauna and shower, watched some of the footy too, Barcelona are a bit good!

Very busy at work at the moment have got to get my figures in before Friday night as I am hoping to be off three days next week!

Not waving but drowning!

cheers

aaaarrrgghhh!!!!!

I think my hamstrings are going to explode!!!

This step aerobics is harder work than you think!

Step-tastic!

My first ever step aerobics class last night and it was really good! Took a while too get my coordination and balance. But it was a very good workout I especially liked the stretching, as a runner I should do a lot of stretching but never do. So doing a class where stretching is part of the routine can only benefit my running and reduce the risk of any injuries.

Did manage to do some weights before the class, getting addictive!

Gym on a Sunday!

Yes I went last night!

The weather forecast this week is terrible so yet again most of my running will be done indoors at the gym. It is not as good as pounding the pavements but as I have paid my membership I might as well run while watching TV.

Also this week I think I may do a few classes at the gym a colleague of mine who is a member of the same gym has suggested I try a step class she says that unfortunately I will be the only man in the class!!!! Which seems a perfect reason to do the class and it will make a change.

Currently doing a 4 x 500m session on the rowing machine as part of my workout, now this is serious hard work rowing 500m in two minutes then a minute recovery. I burn off 33 calories in two minutes so 132 calories in eight minutes rowing! Trust me you know you have had a workout!

In other news, super Notts won again I just wish the season would end now!

Gone all folky!

Listening to the new Laura Marling album!

Very good!

Crappy weather!

So no running outside last night but surprise surprise I did go to gym and I will be going again tonight!

Running club tomorrow night!

21/03/10 Lincoln City 10k Race Report

Arrived in Lincoln very early the car parking was well signposted so no problems the race was set to start at 11.00am so lining up in the sub 50 minutes section I waited for the start! Here was my first problem I got cold and then when the hooter went I set off too quickly. The route was pretty good with plenty of support. However I did my normal trick and needed a toilet break at about 7k this cost me a couple of minutes and any chance of beating my pb!

The finish was a bit rough as it was cobbled and I had nothing left for the sprint. But it was nice running past the Cathedral and finishing in the castle grounds. My time was a slightly disappointing 46.38.

Met up with my family which was a miracle as there were thousands of people around the finish and had a very nice fish & chip lunch. Which was while eating my lunch I discovered I had split both my trainers so yesterday I had a trip to the local outlet and got some new adidas running shoes at half price. I will be trying them out tonight for the first time with a steady five miles.

My next race is not until the 18th of April another new one at Belton House which I am looking forward too.

21/03/10 Lincoln City 10k stats:
Time: 46.38
Position: 815 out of 4270
Condition: Disappointed

Lincoln here I come!

This is my last post until Tuesday when I will report on the City of Lincoln 10k which I am competing in on Sunday! Hopefully I will be meeting up with my Dad, Stepmum & sister. It's always nice to have some support!

Am busy for the next few days and on Monday I am having a scan on my dodgy leg!

In other race news I have entered the Grantham Cup 10k which is on the 18th April and is at Belton House which should be cool have not been to Belton for years.

See ya and keep on running!

14/03/10 Kilomathon Race Report

Ready and raring for the first ever (as we were constantly reminded!) Kilomathon™ arrived at the start with plenty of time met up with a few club members and then waited. It was sunny but cold and I was pleased I had worn my thermal top. The race started at 9.00am and as usual I needed a wee straight away luckily there was a portaloo just before the start so I did not lose any time!

The route was good quite flat and I was feeling pretty confident of achieving my predicted time of 2 hours 15 minutes. At about 17k I started running with a women from Birstall Running Club who kept me going until about 24k when I had to speed up to get my desired time. Rounding the last corner I saw my Mother and Brother. The corner lead onto Meadow Lane which was where the finish was. Now my beloved Notts County is on a Meadow Lane in Nottingham so my brother shouted ‘come on David run down Meadow Lane’ or something like that! So I could see the finish and started sprinting however it was about 400 metres away but I gritted my teeth and came through the finish totally spent. I left nothing on the route.

My time?

2 hours 10 minutes 16 seconds!

Five minutes better than I had hoped, well pleased!

14/03/10 Kilomathon stats:
Time: 2:10.16
Position: 836 out of 5,500ish
Condition: Happy!

Sore Hips!

And it's all my fault!

When I go to running club I go straight from work bringing my kit and getting changed before I leave. Last night I forgot my running socks so had to run in the socks I had been wearing all day! Not too bad but my hips are a bit tender this morning.

Should be about fifteen members of my running club doing the Kilomathon so plenty of support just not looking forward to the early start though it does mean I will be home for about 2.00pm.

Watched the second episode of the 'Eddie Izzard - Marathon Man' last night and again incredible what a super hero!

Also a big well done to Christine Bleakly for water skiing the English Channel for this years Sport Relief! I am running the Lincoln City 10k on Sports Relief Sunday so will be wearing my Sport Relief socks!

cheers

Yesssssssss!!!!

My new ‘signed’ Lloyd Cole cd arrived today! Can’t wait to listen to it, it has one of my favourite songs on it ‘undressed’. So leaving work in just over an hour will stick it on my car stereo and listen to it on the way to the gym! Then home for steak & chips and watching the footy!

Notts won again last night! Four in a row and without conceding a goal. It was a local derby against Chesterfield and my son had a fiver riding on it!!

The veins (varicose!) feel like they are going to burst today I have got to wait until the 22nd when I have an appointment for a scan. Hope they are ok for the race!

Take care

One week to go!!!

Till the first ever Kilomathon!

Ran fifteen miles on Saturday my longest run of the year and my last long one before Sunday’s race. This week will consist of a few short steady runs and trying to eat properly. Feeling pretty confident hoping to finish in less than 2 hours 15 minutes. Though I am feeling a bit of pain in my left ankle which is annoying.

Now that racing season is starting I have had my racing hair cut, grade one all over nicely streamlined need all the help I can get.

Tonight will be a steady 3 miles followed by weights in the gym and a session in the steam room, love the steam room!

cheers

Friday, 5 March 2010

10.7 miles!

At a nice and steady pace including hills took me one hour and twenty seven minutes and I felt pretty good afterwards!

So this weekend my last long run before the Kilomathon planning on doing 15 miles and then spending an hour in the sauna at the gym!!

For motivation and inspiration I watched the first part of ‘Eddie Izzard – Marathon Man’ last night. Fantastic nothing but complete respect for the guy. Having run one marathon I know how hard it is but to run 43 in 51 days is just amazing.

cheers

Wednesday, 3 March 2010

No football last night!

So went to running club, was hard work we did about five and a half miles of hard efforts. I can feel it in my legs this morning but I am feeling slightly more confident about the Kilomathon. My race number is 1871! I am hoping to get two more long runs in (one of at least 15 miles) before the start of next week.

Tonight is the gym, a bit of treadmill sprints, the rower and then upper body weights followed by fifteen minutes in the steam room, lovely!

England v Egypt friendly match on the TV tonight now friendlies are usually rubbish but I will end up watching it.

I am off tomorrow which I am looking forward too, oh, and Notts won again.

cheers

Monday, 1 March 2010

What a nice day!

The first day of March and the sun is shining.

What a difference sunshine & blue skies make!

Had a great weekend my kid’s were on top form as usual did not manage a run though I did go to the gym last night.

Got to run at least six miles tonight then a trip to the gym for weights upper body only and then a session in the steam room.

Football tomorrow night which is always good fun and I think I am off work on Thursday! My lad has his interview for college so I may be taking him which means I will be missing running club again this week! But if I am off I can go for a run in the morning!

Was reading about the correct diet for my new training regime last night. I have got to keep eating the carbs for my running but I need to increase my protein input. According to my reading the best time is in the hour after completing the resistance training (weights). So a trip to Tesco before the gym to get a couple of protein bars.

With my running and now trips to the gym I am a busy boy! Need to get some new gear for the gym I have loads of t-shirts (you get one when you run a race and I ran a lot last year!) but I need a training top and some shorts. So a trip to T K Maxx either one evening or this weekend is in order.

Watched the winter olympics ice hockey final last night, Canada v USA with Canada winning in overtime. Great game, love ice hockey and was pleased Canada won.

Anyway must get on!!!!

Super Notts 5 Hereford 0

Oh happy days

Notts County’s new badge

Now my beloved Notts County have had somewhat of a rollercoaster of a season but hopefully we may now be on the long road to recovery!

A new badge may not sound like one of the most important things to resolve but it will be one step towards us the fans getting our club back!

Munto Finance who took us over and then proceeded to put the club financially down the toilet designed us a badge which quite frankly was a bit crap! The new owners who so far (touch wood!) seem to know what they are doing have given us fans the chance to provide input as to what the new badge should look like, whether it be a completely new one or one of the ones we have had in the past!

So I knocked up an email and sent it off with my suggestion you never know but anything would be better than what we have now! The badge I have suggested can be seen on the 'TOFFS' 1970-71 replica shirt above. Feel a bit sorry for the chap who had the Munto one tattooed somewhere on his body!!!

Have a good one and come on you pies!

Got my number for the Lincoln 10k!

3997 that was quick!

cheers

Ran six miles and...

...entered another race!

The Lincoln 10k on the 21st March, a nice distance with a good finish in Lincoln castle!

Legs are tired I think running and weights at the gym may be a bit too much so thinking about concentrating on upper body at the gym. Seems to be working as my arms feel stronger and I can pump harder when sprinting.

The weather is crap today, very wet and very depressing all I can say is thank **** it's Friday!

Got to get out running at least once this weekend hopefully tomorrow as that should be the best day weather wise.

cheers

Thursday, 25 February 2010

Running from home!

Due to circumstances beyond my control and not wanting to stay at work until 6.15pm to go to running club I am leaving at 5.00pm going home and running six miles! The big boss man is here and the longer I stop the more likely he is to ask me questions. So I am taking the cowards way out and getting out of here!

30 minutes to go! Wish me luck!

Thursday!

Catchy title!

Packed my running kit & my gym kit for tonight the plan is to go to running club, run six miles then go to the gym to do some weights then steam room and shower!

Two weeks on Sunday till the Kilomathon should be ok, not quick but ok! Just hope the weather is ok!

Hopefully next time I post I might have something interesting to talk about, bye bye.

Wednesday, 24 February 2010

Do you ever….

…feel as though you are banging your head against a brick wall?

I really do not like my job any more!

But anyway I am just taking a day at a time and looking forward to going home, going to the gym tonight which I really enjoy am going early as I want to be home in time to watch Chelsea v Inter which should hopefully be a good game.

Didn’t manage to go to running club last night as it was snowing again and I did not want to get sopping wet so am definitely going tomorrow. Have also arranged to play 5 a side football every Tuesday night. I have never been fitter!

Pay day Friday and it could not arrive any sooner. Am going to buy ‘The Hurt Locker’ DVD as it was a big winner at the BAFTA’s and ASDA currently have it on offer at £6.00.

In other news I finally have a free view box so I am all digital now so non stop ‘Top Gear’ repeats here we come.

See ya

Tuesday, 23 February 2010

Ha Ha!

For some reason I can get on my blog at work!!!!

Just about to set off for running club as I have only two and a half weeks until the Kilomathon (16 miles) I have got to pull my finger out!

Was supposed to be running a 6 mile cross country in Nottingham on Sunday but that was cancelled due to heavy snow, now enough is a enough, no more snow please.

Getting addicted to the gym so expect big muscles and a mirror fixation!

See you soon and stay safe

Tuesday, 16 February 2010

I've joined a gym!

Well I joined a gym two weeks ago and I am loving it!

I have joined Bannatynes and great value it is too, my program has been tailored to help with my running and also to increase my upper body strength. I am going about four times a week in fact I am off there later. I am alternating road running with gym work. This weekend I have a cross country race in Nottingham and Colwick Woods should be nice and muddy.

In other news, the plight of my beloved Notts County keeps getting worse hopefully this new guy in charge can sort it out!

I have very nearly stopped drinking completly and I am just about to start painting my first WAB army, so it's all good!

Just got to work on that happy ending!

cheers

Saturday, 30 January 2010

Hi!

It’s been a while!

Not being able to access my blog at work is a serious pain in the glutimous maximus!

So what’s occurring, I have not been to running club since before Christmas mainly due to the weather however last night I played football. 6 a side and really enjoyed it! It is so much more fun when you are fit and I scored five goals two with my right foot, which is normally reserved for just standing on!

I have been averaging approx ten miles a week which is not that good especially when I was reminded today that the Kilomathon is only six weeks away. So next week I have running club two nights and will have to at least double my weekly mileage.

In other news, the harmonica playing is going very slowly, another woman has given me her email address!! (can I be bothered? Probably not!) and I think I am joining a gym! I have got a couple of council tax free months coming up so I may as well sign up! Will keep you informed!

Notts County (touch wood!) seem to be secure and they are playing well. Still have not plucked up the courage to go to another match don’t want to jinx them.

This weekend I just have my daughter so it is party time, wish me luck!

Saturday, 16 January 2010

Still here!

Waiting for the snow to finally go.

Sunday, 3 January 2010

Sunday Night!

All ready for work, today was spent on some groundwork for a few of my resolutions!

Threw some stuff away, a new year a new start.

Have finally worked out how to use my ipod thanks to my son! So I now have playlists of Lloyd Cole (my hero) and the Eels. Anybody else think they are living their life to a soundtrack?

Just me then!

My life seems to follow the career of the aforementioned Mr Cole, but hey, it has not been boring!

Too come,

Monday night, as long as it is not pissing it down or icy I will be running, at least three miles hopefully four. Got to get cracking again. Then at least 20 minutes harmonica practice and then some Viking basing (don't ask, another hobby, it is now a matter of pride!)

Tuesday, running again!(& harmonica practice)

Wednesday, running again and watching the Carling Cup semi on BBC1 (plus harmonica practice!)

Thursday, running club yeah running with people!!!

Friday, as Monday!

Repeat!

Repeat!

Hopefully I will manage to post with help from my Bro!

cheers

Back to running..

Now 2010 I am going to be a bit more choosy about the races I enter, definitely Mansfield (it is local, Clowne as it was the best route I have run and I would like to do Newark Again)

But for the early part of the year I have penciled in;

Grantham half 07/03/10

Kilomathon 14/03/10 (this one I have already entered!)

Retford half 21/03/10

Sheffield half 25/04/10

and

Hinkley half 09/05/10

I am hoping to run races I have not run before and later on in the year I hope to go a bit further a field, hopefully I want to manage at least ten half marathons!

Will keep you informed but I am getting quite excited, I am hoping for a PB (personal best) at Mansfield, not the most interesting route but a decent finish!

cheers

Saturday, 2 January 2010

Thinking about...

...going to watch Notts tomorrow!

The only problem being I am a bit of a jinx, I have seen super Notts County four times this season and have yet to see them win, sooooo seeing as this is a very important game I might stop at home and practice the harmonica & watch Leeds beat Man U (I was a Leeds fan as a kid!, still are my second team!).

Plus I have got to get ready for that nasty place on Monday! I need a shave, a clean shirt and a drink!!

One day to go until the resolutions kick in!

I know it sounds daft but I can get a bit obsessed!

Anyway must go, last night in a warm house, see ya!

New Years Resolutions

Right here we go!, first of all 2010 is going to be a good year!

1, Keep on running
2, Join a gym (about June time!)
3, Learn a musical instrument, the harmonica my beautiful daughter bought me one for Christmas!
4, Paint 1000pts of Vikings (another hobby!!)
5, Drink less
6, Read more
7, Eat better
8, Run a half marathon in less than 1 hour 40 minutes
9, Get a tattoo! (I'm on my third mid-life crisis!)
10, Find my happy ending!

There we go! Ten, yes, ten New Years Resolutions how many of these will I achieve? Hopefully all ten!

So as I said earlier my New Year starts on Monday that means I have two more days to really BLOW OUT and GO FOR IT!

Oh, I am also thinking of writing a book, an auto biography, of course names will be changed to protect the guilty! I think my life story would make a great film, who will play me in the movie?

Well I have been giving this some serious thought, early years probably somebody like Paolo Nutini,

then perhaps Johnny Vegas,

finishing up with Hugh Grant,

Now I think some of the details may piss of a few people, but hey we will call it fiction!

Resolution number three, my first task given to me by my daughter is to learn the harmonica intro to Ryan Adam's 'Firecracker' so I have downloaded the track and am listening to it everyday it is surprising how many songs have the harmonica in! The key to learning an instrument is allegedly to practice daily for about 20 minutes this trains the brain and is much better than nothing all week and then two hours at the weekend!

Anyway will keep you informed of my progress. Not just the harmonica but all my resolutions.

Off now to think of a title for my book!

Friday, 1 January 2010

Currently....

....stopping at my parents house with my son.

Why?

Easy answer it's warm!

Anyway have been sent to bed to watch the telly, he wants to go on the xbox while I want to watch 'Sweet Home Alabama' I love that movie but apparently it is gay!

You can tell I am not at home because I can blog, posts might be a bit less frequent in the new year as work (bastards!) have installed a shield to limit access to non business web sites, but there is always a way around everything.

Running will start again soon weather permitting, it has snowed again, looks pretty but it is a pain!

Anyway must go the films about to start!

Three days to go!

To the start of my new year! Resolutions being written as we speak, until then.......

...oh go on then, pass me a cold one.

Happy New Year!

Same shit! Different date!
