Running magazines!

I used to buy 'Runner's World' but after a while they are basically recyling the same articles. Have found a good mag though 'Outdoor Fitness' good articles and so many things I really want to do.

So if you are writing that bucket list then check it out for great adventures.

2012 is pretty much sorted for me what with the London marathon & the Para 10 but 2013 I am excited already.

cheers

Might do Notts! (marathon)

Why not? Hopefully it won't clash too much with the Para 10 which is after the London marathon my main focus for 2012!

It is my home city of which I am very proud to come from and so must complete the marathon at some point and I am not getting any younger, only better looking :))

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

cheers

Sunday, 4 December 2011

Different route!

Perfect weather for a race however after the first kilometre we turned left instead of right!! It was a different route and I think better. Not as muddy and easier to pass people. My time was just over 48 minutes not too bad but I felt I was going faster. Nice technical t-shirt for all finishers in a very fetching red.

Congratulations to my friend Jordan who completed her second ever 10k in just over 1 hour 4 minutes, a half marathon next:)

So home in time for the mighty Notts County on the TV away at Sutton Utd.

cheers

Saturday, 3 December 2011

One of my favourites!

Tomorrow is the Edwinstowe 10k will be my third time running this race and it is definitely one of my favourites. Although every time I run it I have a cold and it is the same this year. Still I am hoping to improve on my pb and get under 49 minutes!

My best time for the distance (10k) is just over 45 minutes, Edwinstowe is a trail race and can be muddy, icy or both. This year I think it will be muddy and windy. So it is out with the trail shoes my faithful Adidas Kanadia's.

Got to pick my number up first I am no.658. So will watch 'Match of the Day' and then an early night. Looking forward to the race.

cheers

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

Got a cold!

So it must be Edwinstowe 10k on Sunday!!

Monday, 28 November 2011

Clowne Half Marathon - 27/11/11

WOW! That was windy!

Never have I ever run in wind that strong the last three miles were awful.

Day started off a bit rubbish got sopping wet buying petrol the rain was horizontal. On arriving at Clowne however the sun was out and if it was not for the wind it would have been perfect. All in all I am pretty chuffed with my time.

Stats:
Time: 1:46.24
Position: 198/509
Condition: Windy (very)

Friday, 25 November 2011

Am I ready?

Yes I think so, quite looking forward to 13.1 miles of nothing but running. No stress just running.

Repeat after me: No Stress Just Running

Might just keep on running :)

Sunday, 20 November 2011

Bit of a slow week!

Did ten miles Monday and about another fifteen in three visits to the gym. So this week just taking it steady until Sunday, no alcohol and plenty of carbs.

Finding it difficult to become motivated to do anything at the moment.

But my running top is all ready trying it's best to get me in the mood!

cheers

ps I am sooooo bored so just been out for a 6.3 miler not bad a bit chilly had my track pants and gloves on! not quite hat time.

Saturday, 12 November 2011

Well..

..I might hate the treadmill but I did another 10k yesterday and today I did 5000m on the rower! Got to get ready for the Clowne Half which is now only two weeks away.

Monday at least nine miles, looking forward to the race.

Also my brilliant brother has got me somewhere to stay the night before the London Marathon!! Which I am so excited about...!!

Monday, 7 November 2011

I hate the treadmill!

10k yesterday while watching Real Madrid thrash Osasuna 7-1 great game but I just hate running on the treadmill. Have sore thighs today which would not have been the case if I had ran outside. So a short run tonight only four miles just to loosen my legs up.

Hopefully it will stop raining!

Thursday, 27 October 2011

Six miles last night!

Back on track, felt ok. Gym tonight!

Might even treat myself to a new running top from TK-Maxx.

Hate these cold dark mornings.

Wednesday, 26 October 2011

Nine miles on Monday!

As per the title did a steady nine miles in one hour fifteen minutes so I am feeling more confident about the Clowne half next month.

Out tonight for six as long as it is not chucking it down.

Monday, 24 October 2011

Bit quiet!

Nothing exciting to report on the running front.

Next race is the Clowne half at the end of November so I need to pull my finger out. Have decided that I need to replace my broken ipod shuffle. I like listening to podcasts while I run so come payday I will treat myself to a new shuffle. Will hopefully get me out more.

cheers

Thursday, 13 October 2011

Upping the mileage

Did eight miles Tuesday no pain so all good!

Six I think on Friday and a long one Sunday :)

cheers

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

For my London marathon place.

Did another steady six miles last night no ill effects.

Gym tonight.

Friday, 30 September 2011

LONDON MARATHON 2012

I’M IN!!!

Third time lucky and I am so excited!

It is on my Mum’s birthday and it is Olympic year. The best (imo) marathon in the world and I am running it.

Happy, Happy, Happy!!

Oh and I ran six miles on Wednesday and my ankle was ok.

Monday, 26 September 2011

Edwinstowe 10k

Missed this one last year as it was already full. But have got in nice and early as I really like this one as it is local and can be nice and muddy.

4th of December Forest Corner, Edwinstowe.

Friday, 16 September 2011

If!

My ankle and knee ever get better I am thinking about doing the Para 10!

What I hear you ask?

Well, it is a ten mile run!

But at Catterick on the Parachute Regiments training course you run ten miles in boots carrying 35lbs in a bergan (army rucksack) the Para's do it in less than 1hr 50min. I would just like to get round! It is not until next September so I have plenty of time to bottle out.

cheers

Sunday, 11 September 2011

Saturday, 10 September 2011

Managed another 3!

Back of my right knee hurting I think maybe I have been doing to much rowing at the gym! Though I am not sure, it is really annoying!!

Anyway will wait and see how it feels in the morning will probably go out for a short run after the Grand Prix, c'mon Button.

cheers

Only about 3.5 miles

Though that did include Ollerton Pit hill which I still cannot run up in one go.

Have decided to go out again later about 5.30pm need to get back to where I was!

Ankle was a bit sore to start of with but soon loosened up back of the knee is still niggling but not enough to stop me going out.

The gym is good but you can't beat a good run.

cheers

Friday, 9 September 2011

Kill or cure!

Going for a run in the morning. Figured it may do me good not far about 5 miles.

Want to get back into it need to focus on something.

cheers

Gym visit done!

But I feel really poorly, was ill earlier in the week and I thought I was better.

Had planned a busy and fun weekend but as I am feeling rough I think I may be taking it easy.

cheers

Thursday, 8 September 2011

Went to the gym!

Have not run for weeks! My achilles feels fine but I have a niggle behind my right knee:(

So the plan is gym Friday & Saturday! Running on Monday!

I am staying at my parents so the run will be scenic and about three miles might include a big hill!! will see. Need to start up again and get ready for Clowne in November. I know it is a while yet but would like to beat my previous time.

Also got to decide on my marathon for 2012? If yet again I don't get in London should I do Nottingham cheap and local or I quite fancy Paris in the springtime?

Decided to do one (at least!) marathon a year they are really hard work BUT the feeling when you cross that finish line is just the BEST!!

cheers

ps. and I have got to get under four hours!

Friday, 26 August 2011

Clowne Half

Got my number yesterday for the Clowne Half marathon! Not until November but I should start running again within the next week.

Also I thought about playing football tonight, better not.

Gym again instead everynight this week!

Saturday, 20 August 2011

AAAARRGGHH!!!

No running, have rowed 5000m, cycled 15k at the gym not the same though!

Why do I have to get old?

Wednesday, 17 August 2011

No more running for a while!

Injured!, my achilles has gone (right one this time!) went for a six mile run and ran five walked one!

Should have rested up after hurting my leg at football but oh no!!

Well just gym for a while.

Sunday, 14 August 2011

Time was 1.46.22..

..bit disappointed should/could have done better!

Better luck next time!

Newark Half Marathon - 14/08/11

1 hour 46 minutes ish! Was a bit warm but I enjoyed it and it was 15 minutes quicker than my previous best at Newark (Newark was my first ever half - three years ago!!)

Well now its pizza time.

cheers

Oh I need to enter another race now, will think about that this afternoon :)

Saturday, 13 August 2011

Thursday, 4 August 2011

Too hot!

So only managed a very steady six never have I sweated so much!

Gym tonight lot's and lot's of rowing then a relaxing de-stressing sauna. Roll on 4.30pm.

Wednesday, 3 August 2011

Still running!

But I injured by knee last week playing football!!

The weather has improved if anything it is too hot for running but the hotter it is the fitter I should get.

Tonight is at least eight miles as I have the Newark Half soon and it is always red hot for that one.

cheers

Got a mug see pic and some 'Old Spice'! now I smell like my Grandad!

Good run.

Saturday, 25 June 2011

BOOM!!!

I am missing the gym!

I have not got a race for ages!!

Rubbish!

Friday, 24 June 2011

Football tonight!

Looking forward to it! I am a big kid at heart and love scoring goals!

This week I have mostly been going to the gym,I have now decided I want BIG arms so am doing a lot of weights. Not good for my running but I was never going to win a race anyway and keeping fit is what it is all about.

This weekend it is the Mansfield Half Marathon and I am not running it. I just don't like the route it is really boring and the weather forecast for Sunday is red hot!

Anyway I am seeing Charlotte and Sam and we are off to Nottingham on Saturday.I am looking at buying a digital camera, I want to spend no more than £80 but the choice is staggering! Hopefully a decision will be made this weekend.

cheers

Summer Solstice 10k

The first running of this road race by Grantham RC and very good it was too! The weather was a bit wet only a light drizzle which was good to run in. My time was 46.29 slightly disappointing if I had known the route it could have been slightly quicker. As I would have kicked for home earlier than the last corner.

Included in the very reasonable entry fee was a bottle of real ale brewed especially and a burger at the pub across the road from the finish!

Will enter next year, very good.

Got an email from Experian offering me a reduced price entry into this years Robin Hood (Nottingham) Half or Full Marathon.

Now then!

Which one?

Half?

or

Full?

HELP!!!!

Sunday, 12 June 2011

Rampton Hospital 10k Report

Well not my fastest 47.36 but not too bad as there were a couple of hills and I am still a bit sore from footy.

Will do it again though as it is local, friendly and cheap.

Now for the Canadian GP.

Friday, 10 June 2011

5 a side football - phew!

First time I have played in about two years, really enjoyed it. Bit of a niggle in my right calf though I think it is the quick changes in direction not used to it. Scored two cracking goals and was on the winning side.

Think I will play a lot more often although I cannot play next week as I have a race. The Summer Solstice 10k at Long Bennington where all finishers get a bottle of real ale and a free gourmet burger BARGAIN.

cheers

Tuesday, 7 June 2011

Training run tonight

White Peak Marathon 21/05/11 Race Report

Really enjoyed it! My second marathon and it was pretty good the first 22 miles are a steady uphill with three quite severe downhills in the last 4 miles. The downhills really hurt!

Felt really good and was very pleased with my time though I have now got to do another one to get under four hours.

So I might do Nottingham.

Next race is Sunday the 5th of June the Woodhall Spa 10k which is flat and chip timed which is good as it was quite cheap.

So a new Marathon personal best of 4:01.43 well chuffed.

Saturday, 21 May 2011

NEW PB!!!!!

4.01:43 knackered I never thought running downhill could be so painful, full report soon.

Cotgrave Paws 10k Race Report

YES!!!!

A new PB my quickest 10k yet 45 minutes and 10 seconds! Just need to get under 45 min next! (see never happy!)

Beautiful weather and just like last year a great atmosphere, this race is definately my favourite. Really nice t-shirt and free cakes & biscuits what more could you ask for. The course is pretty good one steep hill and a steady incline which you have to do twice and the finish is up hill. But a pb is a pb and I know I can get faster just need to put the work in.

cheers

Saturday, 9 April 2011

New PB (possibly!) details to follow

Just waiting for the Cotgrave Paws 10k results.

Fingers crossed!

Grantham Cup 10k Race Report

Was a fine day, a different route which started and finished in one of the arena's. My time was 50 minutes 10 seconds which I was initially pleased with until I checked my time from last year which was faster. But it was a different route and I did manage a sprint finish.

Me sprinting at the end, photo by my Bro.

IT'S RACING SEASON!!

YAY!!!

Tuesday, 29 March 2011

Ten minute bike challenge (part two)

Did the 'how far can you go in ten minutes challenge' again last night! Beat my personal best with an impressive (for me) 6.22km in the ten minutes.

Also got confirmation that I am in the Cotgrave 10k on the 9th of April. This is a small race but one of my favourites very friendly and well organised and in a lovely park.

So two races in two weeks and my training for the White Peak marathon continues, I was looking at water bottle belts at the weekend. I think I will get one as it could be pretty warm come May and I want to give myself the best chance of getting round in one piece. Also need to do some practice runs wearing it so I might get one on Wednesday. Having the afternoon off on Wednesday as I have some flexi time and I don't want to lose it.

cheers

Monday, 28 March 2011

Good weekend!

Went running three times about 26 miles total!

A week now until my next race the Grantham Cup 10k at Belton hopefully I will be well!

cheers

Thursday, 24 March 2011

Ten minute bike challenge

Gym last night!

A lad at work challenged a few of us to see how far we could cycle on an excercise bike in ten minutes.

Well, I did 5.95km and I can feel it in my legs today!

Tonight is a steady six mile run and the weather is perfect roll on 5.00pm.

Oh and I am off to Wembley on the 7th of May to see Mansfield Town v Darlington in the FA Trophy final, C'MON YOU STAGS!!!

Tuesday, 22 March 2011

7.3 miles last night

It felt like longer!

I have said this before but sometimes you go out on a run and you feel as though you could run forever and sometimes your legs feel really heavy.

Last night my legs felt heavy!

Rest night tonight and gym tomorrow night, another 7.3 miles Thursday, gym Friday, busy Saturday and a long run Sunday.

Well that’s the plan.

Sunday, 20 March 2011

Five village run!

Nine miles this morning.

Boughton, Walesby, Kirton, Wellow and Ollerton.

Now for some breakfast.

cheers

Friday, 18 March 2011

Slowly

Starting to feel better, my legs have felt tired all week. Though I have managed a couple of gym sessions I am hoping to get a run on Sunday morning.

Got to seriously start upping my mileage from now on.

cheers

Tuesday, 15 March 2011

I was poorly!

Did the race when I should not have.

Threw my guts up at mile five ran another five miles and then my legs were totally empty. Finished in two hours four minutes! Rubbish!

I have now had sickness and the shits for three day's.

Nevermind.

Saturday, 12 March 2011

One day to go!

Until my first race of the year.

Have got my kit ready and I am getting quite excited.

cheers

Thursday, 10 March 2011

Tuesday, 8 March 2011

Ten miles and ...

...I ran all the way up Berry Hill Road without stopping! Now I know this will not been much to anybody unless you know Mansfield but Berry Hill Road is very steep and last night was the first time I managed to run it all and in the middle of a ten miler too!

So it is a rest night tonight possibly a trip to the gym for some upper body stuff and then settling down to Barca v Arsenal.

Weather here is lovely but still very cold not sure what the forecast is yet for Retford and Sunday but hopefully it will be dry.

see ya

Sunday, 6 March 2011

The morning after the night before

After a few pints (eight!) I was up early this morning for a steady run.

Seven miles!

Felt pretty good.

One week to go till Retford.

Bring it on!

Friday, 4 March 2011

Seven miles!

Job done, same again tonight.

Have a good weekend.

Thursday, 3 March 2011

Moving!

Moving house so my training is a bit hit & miss at the moment BUT I am going for a run tonight.

I promise.

Tuesday, 1 March 2011

BBBRRRRR!!!!!

Wow, was it cold and wet last night!

Determined to do a long run off I set. To start with it was not raining but that did not last long but I did ten miles and felt good when I got home. No niggles so I am feeling pretty confident about Retford which I repeat is not about hours and minutes but about time on my feet.

Busy tonight so I don't think I am going to get out.

cheers

Monday, 28 February 2011

Cheques sent!

So hopefully I am in!

Less than two weeks till Retford so a long run is in order tonight so I can see whereabouts my fitness level is at.

I feel pretty good.

Tuesday, 22 February 2011

Off after today!

Just for a bit.

Running going well, seven miles Sunday and five miles yesterday.

Tonight it is the gym.

I am already for pay day when I will be entering the Retford Half (13/03/11) and the Cotgrave 10k (09/04/11). I am treating the Retford Half as a training run for my marathon in May. The Cotgrave 10k I ran last year and really enjoyed it and it is really cheap.

cheers

Wednesday, 16 February 2011

Mini Duathlon!

Tonight at the gym a 5k run, 15k bike followed by a 5k run!

Then home in time for Arsenal v Barcelona.

Have got to increase my weekly mileage this week has been a bit poor but if I can get out for three more runs this week I will be happy! Just got a lot of stuff going on at the moment.

Thinking about entering the Retford Half marathon which is on the 13th March have done it once before and it is not one of my favourites but I can use it as a training run and it will increase my mileage.

cheers

Monday, 14 February 2011

Well!

I did 7 miles Friday and 5 miles Saturday!

Legs were tired Sunday so I went to the gym, upper body weights and bike.

Cannot believe it is Monday again!

Friday, 11 February 2011

Two pints at lunchtime!

Then a six mile run in the evening.

YAY!!

Thursday, 10 February 2011

Wednesday night

Gym night only did upper body weights and rower as I wanted to give my legs a rest.

Tonight though is a run six miles at least it is raining at the moment but hopefully it will stop before I leave work. Leaving at four as I want to get it over and done with.

Got confirmation of my Grantham Cup entry so that is three races entered so far in 2011.

cheers

Wednesday, 9 February 2011

Four miles done and....

...the last of the big spenders.

Did my hilly four miler last night went ok. I am currently listening to some 'marathon talk' podcasts these are very good. Have decided to do a gym session tonight to give the old legs a break and I really fancy a sauna.

Last of the big spenders, had defrosted my mince, the pasta sauce was ready but!

I wanted some mushrooms!

So off to ASDA I went, now I did not want many so I picked a few put them in the little brown bag and went to the checkout.

That will be 0.08p!

And very nice they were too.

cheers

Monday, 7 February 2011

Five miles done!

And I enjoyed them so much I might run again tonight instead of going to the gym!

cheers

Grantham Cup 10k entered

April the 3rd an off road trail 10k with a very steep hill. Great value for money £8.00 and this includes a family pass to the Belton International Horse Trials! Did it last year in 48.28 so hopefully will be a little bit quicker this year.

It is really windy today but I am leaving work at four and I am going for a steady five mile run, the plan this week is;

Monday 5 miles
Tuesday Gym
Wednesday 6 or 8 miles
Thursday 5 miles
Friday Gym
Saturday 3 miles and Gym
Sunday Ten miles plus

So that will see me run a total of approx 30 miles and three gym sessions. Due to the very steep hill at the Grantham Cup 10k I will need to get some hill practice in but that can start next week.

Tune in every day this week to see how I get on.

cheers

Monday again

Super Notts County got a draw so a replay at Eastlands and more desperately needed money!!

Running at the weekend as planned though my long run on Sunday turned into a long run at the gym. Thinking about entering a duathlon later on this year so I did forty five minutes on the treadmill followed by thirty minutes on the exercise bike followed by another fifteen on the treadmill. The transition is the hardest part but it should be fun and a new challenge. The one I have my eye on is the ‘Evil Sheriff’ off road duathlon at Sherwood Pines in October. 5k run, 16k bike, 3k run not too bad but it is expensive will see what my finances are like later on in the year.

Brrrrr it's cold

Six miles last night in my shorts!!

Felt really good very comfortable. I think the hours I am doing on the treadmill which I find hard are helping me when I run outside.

So gym and the treadmill tonight, five miles Saturday and my long run Sunday.

Got up this morning about 6.30am went downstairs and as I was galloping(!!!) down the stairs I got cramp in my right calf. Feels like somebody has given me a good kicking. Am I going to have to stretch in the morning now?

As they say on 'Marathon Talk' when asked how much you stretch the answer should be "not as much as I should".

Have a good weekend and come on you pies!!!!

Charity chosen

I am running this year for Nottingham MENCAP!

Monday, 24 January 2011

Monday again!

7.40am I was at the gym! Running on the treadmill!

Did not get out this weekend as I had Charlotte & Sam so as I was driving to work today (not getting my usual lift) I took the opportunity to visit the gym and I may go on my way home.

Tomorrow before the Arsenal v Ipswich game I MUST go for a longish run. Need to get in at least twenty miles this week.

My circumstances will be changing soon!, short term will be a bit rough but long term should be fantastic. Running should not be affected, good thing about running is all you need is yourself.

Countdown has started until the big match. Super Notts County v the millionaires of Manchester City. Fourth round of the FA Cup and the game is on ITV 1 Sunday lunch time.

Excited?

Me?

You bet!!

Woke up with a slight cold

Friday morning felt a bit rough so decided to have a rest day!

Saturday feeling much better I had a good session in the gym, weights, treadmill and bike.

So Sunday was my long run only ninety minutes a steady run just over 10 miles was hard work but I am on schedule with my training. Tonight I am going out for a 5 mile run and tomorrow I am going to do some hill repeats!

If there is anybody out there reading this and you are interested in running I recommend you listen to the 'Marathon Talk' podcast! A great listen and very inspirational just google 'Marathon Talk' you won't regret it.

Popping out again!

Same route as last night, so another 3.1 miles to bank in the old legs.

Am off work tomorrow (flexi day) so I am going to do my weekly long run a couple of days early, approx. two hours running.

Have downloaded the latest 'Marathon Talk' podcast so will listen to that.

Also I am thinking about running for charity again this year and possibly 'Guide Dog's for the Blind' again though I still have not made my mind up. But if I am running at least two marathons and possibly an ultra it would be a shame not to raise any money.

Last night I ran the 3.1 miles in 24.32 but tonight I am going out watchless! just a relaxing run!

cheers

Wednesday, 12 January 2011

Just going out for a 3.1 mile run.

Feeling a bit tired so only a steady three miler tonight aiming for a long run Friday.

cheers

Nope

Too cold, too dark, way too nice in bed!

Just over 5 miles!

In 42 mins and 47 seconds, nice and steady. I have also got too lose a bit of weight! Put on about five pounds over Christmas nad that isn't just my long hair.

Might go for a run in the morning, might do!

Lack of motivation!

Finding it really hard to get up, go out and run. I thought my entry into the White Peak Marathon would have inspired me but no!

Am staying at my Mother’s tonight and have worked out a route which is just over five miles and I am determined to go out and run it tonight. I will download a new podcast and do a steady run and then back for a nice hot shower. Then settle down and watch the footie on BBC2.

I think it must be the January blues!

cheers

Received confirmation of my entry into the White Peak Marathon which takes place on the 21st May. So training is being increased.

Ran a steady five miles last night and as my car is now fixed I am off to the gym tonight.

Tomorrow is my weekly long run, ten miles plus.

Have a good weekend
