25/07/09 Heckington 10 mile Report

Woke up on the morning of the race to bright blue skies! The race was set to start at 10.00am however the info supplied by the organisers suggested getting there in plenty of time. So arriving at 9.20am we set off to find the start area. Heckington village show looked great something out of ‘Mid Summer Murders’! Animal shows, Vegetable, cake and flower displays with judging. Lots of stalls, livestock, classic cars & tractors, loads of stuff. Including of course the 10 mile running race as well as tug of war and cycling races.

The race started at 10.00am prompt on a grass arena which we did one lap of until leaving the showground into the village itself. The route was two laps of a very flat course the weather was very hot but there were plenty of water stations I was not expecting a quick time but on entering the village for the last time with less than half a mile to go it looked as though I might get under the 75 minute mark. Passing the church I felt somebody on by shoulder so kicked a bit and entered the showground feeling quite fresh. However the arena was grassy slightly uneven and the last 50 metres were hard work! I crossed the line in 1 hour 14 minutes and 36 seconds just under 75 minutes, very pleased!

I managed to get a sun burnt face but had fun!

A venison burger later I spent a good couple of hours looking round the show before going back to my Dads for a shower and a rest (also checking the footie results, Notts beat the red team from the wrong side of the Trent!! Huzzah!). 7.30pm and it was off to a party and a good time a few bottles of Spitfire, some interest from a laydee and then back to bed for a good nights sleep.

A good weekend and a new pb of 1:14.36 for ten miles.

I’m back!!

Been poorly sick the last few days! A head cold, not very nice but at least it was not the dreaded swine flu!

So have not been running since taking part in the Heckington 10 last Saturday! Race report to follow.

It’s not a dream!

Or I have not woken up yet!

Sven-Goran Eriksson is the director of football at Notts County!! My Notts County!

The world has gone mad and I love it.

Running! Am doing an eight miler tonight am off tomorrow morning so will do a swift three and then on Saturday it is the Heckington 10 mile race. My number has arrived as well as my competitor entry pass! Whooo get me! A competitor!

Should be good fun and the weather forecast is pretty good.

Now, time to check if the mighty Notts have signed any more players.

cheers

19/07/09 Sherwood Pines 10k Report

Turned out to be a pretty good day, weather was just about perfect, slight wind but was cool! Route was ok a few hills and some sandy bits. But you cannot argue with a new pb! 45 minutes and 29 seconds nearly four minutes off my previous pb.

Sarah did her first ever 5k in 32.46 and enjoyed it she is now talking about doing a 10k.
Rachel’s time for her 10k was 58.12 and Tammy completed the 10k in 1:11.10!

me, Tammy & Rachel!

All fantastic a big well done to everybody.

Have bought my official race photo as shows me sprinting to the finish! Had a very strong finish though was very tired at the end which is exactly how you want to be no point running at anything less than the maximum. The only problem with the photo is my shoulders look very white it was the first time I have ran in my new running vest and will need to get a tan before I wear it again!

Heckington 10 miler on Saturday will be wearing by ‘Guide Dogs’ top for that one!

Off to watch the mighty Notts County tonight in a friendly! It is all getting a bit weird at the moment being a Notts fan being linked with Ericsson etc..very strange!

cheers

WHOOO HOOO!

A new personal best for the 10k, 45 minutes something that is nearly four minutes off my previous time!

Sarah, Rachel and Tammy did really well too!

Full report when the official times are out.

cheers

Looking forward…

…to Sunday and the 10k. My son is thinking about doing the 5k so that would make four of us from work myself, Tammy and Rachel doing the 10k, Sarah the 5k and hopefully Sam also doing the 5k. He is going to come out for a training run with me tonight a steady 4 miles to see how he feels.

Preparation has again been crap, with Sam stopping with me it has been difficult to get out but I must do better next week as it only a week till the Heckington 10 miler! Which I am excited about.

Pictures of the trail 10k run at Sherwood Pines on the 7th are up on the web! Not the most flattering of pictures as it was a hard if enjoyable slog. Don’t think I will be buying it!

So a report of Sunday’s race will follow next week, have a good one!

Transformers 2

Enjoyed it, very good!

And Megan Fox has been replaced in my affections by the stunning Isabel Lucas!

You know when you see somebody in a film and you are sure you have seen them in something else? Well Isabel Lucas was ‘Tash’ in ‘Home & Away’ years ago, she was pretty then too!

Out again tonight so at most only about 3 miles tonight though I am doing weights and upper body work to help me sprint up those hills!

Wednesday, 15 July 2009

Six miles!

Managed 6 miles last night in just under 47 minutes, 46:47.53 to be precise it was hard work though as it was quite humid.

Good news, the car is fixed picking it up this afternoon and then taking Sam to see Transformers 2 (Orange Wednesday!) 150 minutes of robots!! Though Megan Fox should make it bearable!

So no running tonight, tapering off nicely for the 10k on Sunday.

cheers

No running!

Having my son staying with me is messing up my training! Don't get me wrong I love him stopping with me but finding the time for a run is harder!

Really need to go out tonight so will hopefully get a few miles in!

It does not look like my car is going to be ready today which is a bit of a pain as I had plans.

Anyway must go I am very busy! Cheers

Running & walking

Last Thursday I ran 6 miles, Friday I cut my lawn, Saturday walked into town to sort out the money to pay for the repairs to my car and yesterday ran 8 miles. It was a steady eight miles and I did it in just over 1 hour & 2 minutes.

Training now for the 10k at Sherwood Pines this Sunday which I think is going to be a different route to the one I did last week. Not such an off road trail race but on the ‘well maintained’ forest tracks according to the organiser’s blurb!

Rachel and Tammy are also running on Sunday it being their second ever 10k after doing the ‘Race for Life’ 10k yesterday so they both have personal bests to beat. I am hoping for a new pb and to that end am trying to prepare properly this week with some speed and hill work and a better diet!

Picked up a running vest on Saturday from JJB in the sale! It is a ‘Champion’ one in white, have yet to run in a vest but if we get a hot day on Sunday I think it will be my top of choice. It does mean I won’t be wearing my ‘Guide Dogs for the Blind’ top but as long as I wear it for my half marathons and in particular the Great North Run in which I am in their team it will be fine! I am a bit of a label snob and prefer Adidas but you can’t turn down sale bargains though I think when the car is fixed, tomorrow hopefully, a trip to the retail outlet on the A38 just outside Mansfield to the Adidas store may well be in order!

Planning on a six mile run tonight followed by beans on toast (white bread) then a walk up to ASDA for some pasta supplies.

cheers

07/07/09 Sherwood Pines Trail 10k Report

It stopped raining! Then started again though not too bad!

This was a proper trail race off the paths, through mud, up sandy hills the works! Once I had got over the fact that I was not going to beat by pb I enjoyed it!
Did it in 50.24 came 39th overall and was 10th in my class.
Will definitely do another one was really good fun getting all muddy. Got a nice medal too to add to my collection.

The only down side being that my car broke down on the way home is going to be very expensive to repair. VERY ANNOYED!!

Got confirmation of my entry into the Heckington 10m I am number 94 just need to hope my car is fixed in time!

Sherwood Pines Trail 10k 07/07/07 stats:
Time: 50.24
Position: 39(out of 152)
Condition: Wet & Muddy!

Tuesday, 7 July 2009

5 hours to go and...

...it is pissing it down!

Thunder & lightning…

….very very frightening!

Bags all packed with my kit ready for tonight including spare trainers, spare socks, t shirt, towel etc. I am expecting a wet race which could end up being a very wet and muddy race!

Race starts at 7.00pm but have to be there early to collect my chip, it is chip timed which I prefer as your time is spot on and as I am hoping to beat my previous best by only a few seconds chip timing is essential.

Picking my brother up who along with my son are coming along to support me. To be honest I am aiming for 48 minutes but like I said in the previous post I had rather an unhealthy weekend. I think if I really want to improve my personal bests I have got to start taking it more seriously. The running training I am good with it is just my diet I could improve and I could also do with a bit more weight work!

Well, the Saab Salomon Forest Trail Sherwood Pines 10k here I come! (what a mouthful!)

Race report tomorrow.

Not prepared!

Don’t feel very confident about tomorrow nights 10k! Have overindulged rather a lot this weekend so I am feeling bloated this morning.

Running over the weekend was 4 on Friday, 6 on Saturday and an easy 3 on Sunday tonight will be carb loading!

Weather forecast for Tuesday night is a bit dodgy, heavy showers, thunder and lightning!

But I will give it my best, I will have to prepare much better for the one on the 19th. My current best for the 10k is 49.20 so it is definitely beatable!

cheers

Running or Drinking?

And the winner is drinking!

Running this weekend though & making home made vodka jaffa cakes with my daughter.

Have a good one & see you on the other side

My Mansfield Half picture!

taken at 12.5 miles.

Fat bottomed girls!

Went for a bike ride last night in the heat wave and really enjoyed it did the blue route at Sherwood Pines this is the intermediate one and was pretty easy. Though will have to buy a helmet if I want to do the tougher route. Some of the tracks had large stones on which made it interesting at speed.

Due to the heat at the moment I am not going to set any training run targets for the next couple of weeks. Just go out and run and see how I feel. Tonight I am going to go out about 7.00pm it might be a bit cooler by then.

Have decided to run the 10k next week at Sherwood Pines in my trail shoes I have not run a race in them yet but the extra grip may be useful. After riding round some of the course last night a lot of it is quite sandy!

My shoes of choice are Adidas, my road running ones are Adidas Supernova Cushion 6 and my trail shoes are Adidas Kanadia TR.

in a rather fetching colour scheme exclusive to the Sweatshop and very good they are too, great value for money!

Poorly

Set off in the early evening heat to do a steady six miles but only managed four! With two miles to go I suddenly felt very ill so had to walk home. Desperately needed the loo and am still suffering a bit this morning. Don’t know if it was the heat or something I have eaten.

It is another very hot day today so no running tonight but I think I may go for a bike ride. A bit of cross training would do me good and make a change. I have also got a bit of a tight knee am a bit in the wars at the moment perhaps I need a rest!

cheers
