29/11/09 Clowne Half Marathon Report

First of all BRILLIANT really enjoyed it! The weather was cold and wet but thankfully not very windy. The route was very good hilly but nothing too bad and I think on a clear day the views would be very impressive. It was also nice to meet up with two fellow Southwell Club members who also ran the race.

Felt good through most of the run and I came home in 1:43.44 my third fastest time ever and easily my best after my injury. Mention must be made of the superb running t-shirt given to all finishers very nice and useful!

On Friday I visited my Doctor about the pain in my left calf and guess what? I have varicose veins so he has put me on some tablets and I have to go back in a month to see if they have improved!

This week will consist of a few short runs plus Thursday’s club training session as I get ready for Sunday’s 10k at Edwinstowe. After this Sunday’s performance I am hoping for a decent time.

Clowne Half Marathon stats:
Time: 1:43.44
Position: 204 out of 540
Condition: Very wet but very happy!

Had a night off!

Am tapering ready for Clowne on Sunday, I hate tapering always feel as though I am going to lose all my fitness!

So last night was a curry (a little treat, carb loading!) while watching a bit of football and the brilliant Andrew Marr's 'History of Modern Britain'

Tonight is another night off as it is my daughter's parents evening so after meeting hopefully lots of fit teachers (I doubt it!) a meal in Maccy D's. Though I might squeeze in a quick three miles when I get home.

Back to work now and hoping that this wind will drop before Sunday.

cheers

SRC 10 Miler

Saturday was the Southwell Running Club’s 10 miler race and the first club event I have run and I did it in just under 80 minutes! Four minutes outside my pb but a good marker and a time I should improve on next year. The weather stayed fine the forecasted rain and strong winds did not make an appearance. The route included two hills which were a bit nasty and as it was two laps knowing what was coming made it a bit harder.

Tapering off now for the Clowne half on Sunday, I should be picking up my club running top on Thursday just hope the weather improves.

Have made an appointment to see the doctor on Friday as my left calf is playing up a bit! Don’t like this getting old lark!

Total mileage last week was 29 so not a bad week, tonight hopefully at least four!

cheers

Boring weekend!

Well what more is there to say!

No kids!

No races!

No money!

County managed a lucky draw away at Bury, I ran a measly three miles so that’s twenty in total for the week, not bad!

On Sunday I watched the Disney film ‘The Rookie’ about baseball and cried like a baby! Top Gear was back and was pretty good and that’s about it.

Hopefully it will stop raining so I can go for a run tonight am getting ready the Club’s 10 mile race this Saturday.

Back to punching in 1700 assets, oh joy!

No not a cheesy pop band from the eighties but last nights club run! Don't think I have ever been so wet! Six miles in the pouring rain.

Miles run so far this week 17.

Bad Daddy!!

Well after last nights parent’s evening my son is not talking to me!

Running, obviously did not have time last night but will be out tonight for at least six! I have joined Southwell Running Club and so far am really enjoying it. They have a club race on the 21st, a ten mile race which goes towards the clubs ‘progress’ competition apparently throughout the year you run three races of different lengths and they produce a league table based on attendance, improvement etc. So I need to turn up and get my first time on the board.

Tonight might be the first night of this winter when I will have to wear my leggings!!! Luckily it will be pitch black by the time I venture out!

Feeling pretty confident about the Clowne half hoping to improve on my last post injury time and as mentioned before it is the last half of the year for me. I will have to get a Southwell Running Club vest before the race, they are quite smart, blue with the club logo ‘an apple’ , Southwell is the home of the Brambley apple!

Can’t wait to leave work been another shitty day,

See you

But did manage to run 8 miles last night in just over 61 minutes nearly my best! So I am getting there!

No running club tonight as it is my son's parent evening, so lots of 'must try harder'!

Quickie!

Quick post this morning!

Did six miles last night and felt really good just my left calf feeling a bit tight!

First visit to Southwell Running Club tonight (if it's not raining too much).

Also bought Runners World magazine this morning, I used to get it every month but at £4.20 a shot it is now more of an occasional treat! One of the articles though caught my eye '6 tricks for instant motivation' just what I need!

cheers

Arrgghh!! It’s November!

Ok, one half marathon left!

Clowne, I found my number yesterday had forgotten it had already arrived! I am number 4. Now it is quite hilly but I am looking forward to it the route takes me right past where my kids live so I should have my own little supporters club, if they can get out of bed in time.

Have not done any running this weekend which is a bit slack have had Sam my son so went to watch Notts County on Saturday and had my usual jinx effect. So I have not seen them win yet this season (was another draw!).

Will be running tonight, definitely…yes, unless it’s chucking it down.

cheers
